DOMAINE D’EXPERTISE-RECHERCHE :
Les travaux de recherche de M. Chin Long KY ont pour objectif l’amélioration génétique des espèces exploitées, une des clés du développement de toutes filières d’élevage optimisées. Des approches multidisciplinaires ont été développées sur différents modèles biologiques, tant végétaux (riz, maïs et caféiers), qu’animaux (bar, crevette et huîtres). Ils se sont inscrits dans un cadre collaboratif avec les organismes de recherche institutionnels, mais aussi avec le soutien du secteur privé (semenciers, aquaculteurs et perliculteurs). Les estimations des paramètres génétiques, préalable indispensable à la sélection des caractères d’intérêt agronomique et aquacole, l’hybridation interspécifique, la polyploïdisation ont été les voies d’amélioration génétique privilégiées. L’identification des gènes, leurs interactions avec l’environnement et leurs localisations sur le génome ont été explorées au travers des outils de la génomique fonctionnelle (transcriptome, protéome) et de la cartographie génétique. Ses travaux ont fait l’objet de nombreuses publications dans une quinzaine de revues internationales de rang A, dont un tiers ayant un facteur d’impact supérieur à 3. Enfin, un brevet commercial a été déposé en 2005 sur le bar (Dicentrarchus labrax).
